Black Box Snacks Pty Ltd (ABN 28 639 565 469) is a family-owned Australian enterprise dedicated to the production of artisanal croquettes. The founders, having roots in the Netherlands, were inspired by the popular Dutch tradition of "snacks uit de muur," which refers to the variety of snacks dispensed from vending machines integrated into the walls of snack bars.
Croquettes hold the title of the most consumed snack in the Netherlands, with an average annual consumption of approximately 29 croquettes per person, culminating in a staggering total of around 350 million croquettes each year. Distinct regional varieties exist, such as the Amsterdam Veal Croquette and the Gouda Cheese Croquette, showcasing the diversity of this beloved snack.
Our guiding principle is to produce food that is both authentic and wholesome. We refrain from incorporating preservatives, artificial colors, concentrates, or additives into our products, except when legally mandated. Our commitment to environmental sustainability drives us to minimize our carbon and water footprints as much as possible.
We are convinced that humanity has reached a critical juncture, necessitating a reevaluation of our dietary practices and food production methods. We advocate for a reduction in meat consumption, recognizing it as an essential shift for sustainability. The unnecessary conversion of one food source into another is not a viable long-term strategy.
Consequently, we avoid sourcing cattle that are fed fish meal derived from anchovies caught near Antarctica, which has dire consequences for local wildlife, including penguins and humpback whales, leading to their starvation and potential extinction.
Additionally, we reject the use of soybeans from South America, which have resulted in the deforestation of millions of hectares of pristine rainforest, causing significant harm to ecosystems, communities, and the global climate. Our meat is sourced from cattle that graze on grass and herbs in local pastures, ensuring they lead healthy lives.
We prioritize plant-based ingredients sourced from within a 100-kilometer radius, reinforcing our commitment to local and sustainable practices.
We firmly believe in the right to choose a diet that includes less meat without compromising on quality or flavour.
